Bernie Marsden passed away on August 24, 2023, a great British rock guitarist who left behind many masterpieces and great performances with UFO, PAL, and above all WHITESNAKE. Although the cause of his death has not been disclosed, he passed away peacefully after 72 years of life, cared for by his wife and two daughters. I am sure that many of you are now playing WHITESNAKE's masterpieces and losing yourself in the memories of the great guitarist. Of course, that is important, but it is precisely at a time like this that we should celebrate Bernie's life by experiencing his music in a broader and deeper way. A Christmas gig with a private feel. This is a masterpiece live album perfect for such a "now. This is a beautiful audience recording of the December 17, 2011 Tinjewick concert. Normally, we would post the tour schedule, but Bernie was not on a big tour at that time, and was facing his own blues rock while releasing "BERNIE PLAYS RORY" and "BALLYSHANNON BLUES FOR RORY", which were dedicated to Rory Gallagher. This album was recorded at the time of his death. This album was recorded at Christmas time in 2011. He held a very private gig in his hometown of Buckinghamshire, with a capacity of about 150 people. This is a vacuum-packed audience recording of that very private event, which has the feel of an intimate club room. This is the only original recording of the event, and the sound is extremely clean and beautiful. It is not the type of recording that could be mistaken for a soundboard, but the atmosphere is clear and the delicate performance is clearly conveyed down to the subtleties of the music. Moreover, there must be no physical distance because of the extremely small size of the hall. You can feel the "presence" of Bernie playing the guitar and singing right in front of you. A diverse and enjoyable jukebox show The stage is depicted with such an intimate and private sound that gives the audience the feeling of being in a private room. As mentioned above, there were many Rory Gallagher cover projects at the time, but this show was far more diverse and full of famous songs. It is a "live jukebox" like a private party. In order for you to get a feel for the fun, let's rearrange the set by source material. Roots (7 songs) - Blues Standard: Ramblin' On My Mind (Robert Johnson) / Baby What You Want Me To Do (Jimmy Reed) - 60's: I Loved Another Woman (FLEETWOOD MAC) / Mustang Sally (WILSON PICKETT)/Born To Be Wild (STEPPENWOLF)/You Really Got Me (THE KINKS)/I Saw Her Standing There (THE BEATLES) Contemporaries (9 songs) - 70s: Rocky Mountain Way (Joe Walsh) / Sweet Home Alabama (LYNYRD SKYNYRD) / Shakey Ground (THE TEMPTATIONS) / 80s: Ghost Blues (Rory Gallagher) / Summer Of 69 (Bryan Adams) / Steamy Windows (Tina Turner)/Purple Rain (Prince)/Others: Sex On Fire (KINGS OF LEON)/Here I Go Again (WHITESNAKE)*Note: The original artist of the cover is in parentheses. ....... Bernie's own musical career started in 1972, so I have divided the songs into "roots-type" songs before that time and "contemporaneous" songs after he started his activities. Bernie's only original is "Here I Go Again," and all the others are covers of well-known songs. The contents are more varied than expected. In the "Roots" section, Bernie played blues standards, but the main songs were rock songs from the 1960s. The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There," Steppenwolf's "Born To Be Wild," the Kinks' "You Really Got Me," and many others were chosen, all of which are well known to rock fans. More enjoyable are the "contemporaries," which include the 70's classics and Rory Gallagher, as well as the modern Tina Turner's "Steamy Windows" and Prince's "Purple Rain. And the most outstanding song is "Sex On Fire" by KINGS OF LEON. This song was released in 2008 and was a huge hit in the UK, selling 1.2 million copies. The band even played the latest hit in real time, which was unknown in the U.K. at the time, and in fact, the intro alone was met with applause and a chorus at the chorus. This alone should give you an idea of how party-like this album is. Bernie Marsden was having a hot and joyful Christmas with his local friends. This is a live album that allows you to be present at such a private venue with beautiful sound. Bernie here is not an ex-WHITESNAKE, not a white bluesman with black aspirations. He is a "music man" who loves music and plays music with his friends. This is the true face of Bernie Marsden, which cannot be experienced in his more formal and official works. This is a beautiful audience recording of the December 17, 2011 Tinjewick concert. This is an original recording only available on this release, and it is extremely neat and beautiful. The airy and delicate performance is clearly conveyed down to the subtleties of the music, and you can feel the "presence" of Bernie playing the guitar and singing right in front of you. Except for "Here I Go Again," all of the songs were covers of well-known songs, making this Christmas gig a jukebox of a repertoire that included not only blues, but also Beatles, Tina Turner, Prince, Rory Gallagher, and many others.
