In 2018, when he was wrapping up his career by publishing his autobiography, WHERE'S MY GUITAR, and his guitar collection book, TALES OF TONE AND VOLUME Bernie Marsden. Here is a new masterpiece that allows you to experience his blues-rock on the scene. The recording is of the February 18, 2018 Marne-la-Vallée concert. After the breakup of M3 in 2005, Bernie returned to soloing and enjoyed a life of leisure. He pursued blues rock as a hobby, playing sporadic club gigs rather than large-scale tours. The data from that time is rather vague (some say the show was on February 18 and some say it was on February 23), so I won't try to sort it out, but it seems that even in such a career, he was rather active on stage from 2014 to 2019. This live album is a vacuum-packed live album of those club gigs. The sound is truly a superbly intimate experience. The sound is a true "audience" sound with a sense of air, but it is also very up-close and personal because of the physically small size of the club. You can feel Bernie singing and playing guitar right in front of you. The rhythm section supporting him was also clearly and distinctly visible. The trio (his friend Neil Murray and former MAGNUM member Mickey Barker), who also performed together on the CD "TALES OF TONE AND VOLUME," played every single note of the simple ensemble with vivid definition. You can clearly see each performance intertwine and weave a single rough rope. The band's secretive, locked-room sound depicts the ultimate in Bernie-style blues-rock, with plenty of blues classics along with classic WHITESNAKE tunes. Here's a rundown of what's on offer. From pre-war "Crossroads" and "Sittin' On Top Of The World" to Peter Green's beloved "Black Magic Woman" and "Oh Well," the songs from each era are performed one after another, including WHITESNAKE's well-known "Ain't No Love" and "In The Heart Of The City. In The Heart Of The City" is also covered by Bobby Bland, so only three original White Snake songs, "Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues," "Fool For Your Loving," and "Here I Go Again," are original. The wide-ranging selection of songs, while still focusing on blues, makes this an evening of masterpieces that seems to sum up the history of the blues in a nutshell. The performance that accompanies such a set is just as rich and flavorful. Because the genre is a genre, a style of playing that emphasizes nuance rather than vigor suits the music perfectly. Flexible drums with a freely changing groove are intertwined with bass and guitar that are full of songfulness. Each phrase is full of flavor, and the more you layer them on top of each other, the more the ensemble's charms grow. Bernie Marsden was the cornerstone of the early WHITESNAKE and the source of their deep lyricism. The essence of his music was undoubtedly the blues, and it was in the clubs where it was most suited. This live album is a live album that allows you to witness such a secret room with the sound of your skin. This is a piece that brings you closer to Bernie's music: a superb audience recording of the February 18, 2018 Marne-la-Vallée show.
