Mike Millard's recording of Bonnie Raitt's "THE CHRISTIC INSTITUTE BENEFIT CONCERT 1990 DAY 2: MIKE MILLARD MASTER The release of "TAPES" is still fresh in our minds, but it was a short set for a charity concert, and was also performed in an unplugged format, which is irregular for a concert. However, the newly released mirrored master is a surprisingly first-ever recording of her on the full stage. What is exciting is that Millard was able to capture her at the peak of her career with "NICK OF TIME" and "LUCK OF THE DRAW," her two biggest hit albums in rapid succession, in superb sound quality that only Millard can provide. Both of those albums won Grammy Awards, and she married actor Michael O'Keefe. However, a live album was not realized during this period, nor was a live performance for radio broadcasting, which was a common practice for American artists at that time. It was not until 1995 that a live album was finally released, and there were no definitive live recordings of the band during their long career, when they finally had their big break. This time, Millard recorded the Irvine show in October. The show was recorded in Irvine in October, when "Luck of the Draw" had already become a huge hit and the band was in the midst of a tour that was at the peak of its powers. Millard recorded her on stage at the peak of her career in superb sound quality. As usual, the sound image is on, and Layette's singing and slide guitar are very close. The recording is in excellent condition. And while "THE CHRISTIC INSTITUTE BENEFIT CONCERT 1990 DAY 2" was a small acoustic stage, Millard has captured a powerful sound with a full band, again in excellent balance. The fact that Ricky Futter, ex-Beach Boys & ex-Rattlers (lol), was playing drums in her band at this time may be a point that appeals to rock enthusiasts. The sound quality is perfect, as only Millard can reproduce her imposing stage performance, including the big hit "Thing Called Love," which is very nostalgic now, and "A Big Hunk O' Love," a cover of Presley's "A Big Hunk O' Love," which is a well-known live performance. To top it off, John Prine, a close friend of Raitt's who died of the coronavirus in 2020, appeared for the finale and performed a joyous duet with her, also in excellent sound quality. The entire show could be called a peak performance, with Raitt full of himself but roaring his songs and slides backed by a band that supported him with their poise and poise. This is the ultimate audience album that captures her on stage from "NICK OF TIME" to "LUCK OF THE DRAW" in an unexpectedly mirrored recording. TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc 1 (48:55) 1. Intro 2.
