This is the one and only live album that includes even THE MIKE GARSON BAND that opened the show in its entirety. This is the historic masterpiece that has been called "the definitive recording of THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR". The masterpiece was recorded at the New York City concert on October 30, 1974. This is the masterpiece audience recording. Garson's band?" What is THE SOUL......? It is not surprising that some of you may be asking yourself, "What is THE SOUL? Let me start with the basics. THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR" was a part of "DIAMOND DOGS TOUR" in 1974. At the time, Bowie was deepening his devotion to soul music, and he changed direction midway through the tour. He introduced new songs from "YOUNG AMERICANS," which he had started working on during the tour, on stage, and the arrangements became much more soul-oriented. Moreover, the band members were different, with the addition of Carlos Alomar, a close friend of the band, and the rhythm section was replaced by Willie Weeks and Dennis Davis. Backing vocalists included Ava Cherry, Robin Clark, Luther Vandross, and other members of YOUNG AMERICANS, making it a 14-member tour. To give you an idea of the situation, let's take a look at a summary of activities in 1974. May: Release of "DIAMOND DOGS" "DIAMOND DOGS TOUR" June 14-July 20: North America #1 (32 shows) 《August: "YOUNG AMERICANS" production begins》・September 2-16: North America #2 (12 shows) "THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR" October 5-December 1: North America #3 (34 shows) ←★★★★ Thus, in 1974, three North American tours were held while production of "YOUNG AMERICANS" was being carried out. "THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR" was the final leg of the "North America #3" tour, and the New York City show in this album was the 17th concert of the tour. As mentioned above, this show has been known to be recorded for a long time and has been regarded as "the definitive/prestigious album of the tour. The biggest reason for this is the presence of the opening act. Although the details are unknown, THE MIKE GARSON BAND opened for several shows on "THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR", and this New York recording is the only record of the band (previously (It was previously said to be dated "October 28," but current research has established "October 30" as the most likely date). Of course, no matter how valuable it is, if the sound is not good enough, it cannot be called a "definitive recording. This is the opposite, as the sound is one of the best recordings of the tour. The clarity of the performance and the singing, the strong core that reaches straight to the audience, the freshness and freshness with a great sense of stability, the balance as if it were an FM broadcast, etc. ...... is not a soundboard-like recording, but it is a great sound that exceeds the standard of the audience in the 70's. It is not a soundboard-like close recording, but it is a wonderful sound that exceeds the audience standards of the 70's. The show is the best in such a sound. The most remarkable thing is the stage of THE MIKE GARSON BAND. The band is not a separate band, but basically Bowie's back-up band. The show started without Bowie, and the back-up singers sang. The set was also very typical of the time. The set opened with Luther Vandross' original "Funky Music," followed by blues standards by T-Bone Walker and R&B/soul covers by The Supremes and The O'Jays. I'm In The Mood For Love," the theme from the '30s movie "Every Night at Eight," is also an R&B standard. Then, THE MIKE GARSON BAND's stage culminated in "Memory Of A Free Festival" from "SPACE ODDITY," where they called out Bowie. Finally, the star of the show appears and the main event begins. The flow of the show is dramatic! It is with regret that there is only one copy of this brilliant production left, and I feel grateful that that one is such a great recording. It is truly the greatest listening experience of the film. Of course, Bowie's stage performance is also a must-hear. The set is different from "North America #1-2," and the arrangements are funky. The title track from "YOUNG AMERICANS" and new songs such as "Can You Hear Me?" and "Somebody Up There Likes Me" were also performed. The most notable song was "Footstompin'," a cover of THE FLAIRS. This song itself is a rare song only performed on "THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR," but on this day, it was a genuine world premiere. The entire show was filled with enthusiasm for new sounds and new arrangements, and this fresh performance was a symbol of that. This album also includes a bonus audience recording of the October 19, 1974 Detroit show (separate from our "DETROIT 1974" and "COBO ARENA 1974 1st NIGHT"). This is also a neat and excellent recording, but unfortunately, only less than 8 songs have been discovered. Although there is no way to introduce it alone, the recordings of "THE SOUL/PHILLY DOGS TOUR" are still valuable. Therefore, we have included it as a bonus in this album. Bowie met Carlos Alomar in 1974, and turned his attention to soul music. This is the only album with THE MIKE GARSON BAND. This is the only album with THE MIKE GARSON BAND, and it is a historical masterpiece that depicts a stage that emanates even richer soul/r&b colors with a wonderfully neat sound by its opening.
