Bowie's 50th birthday concert at Madison Square Garden with many guests. Here is a superb stereo soundboard album of the concert. The show was held on January 9, 1997, about a month before the release of "EARTHLING". Bowie's birthday is January 8, but MSG was already booked for a basketball game on that day. The concert was held the next day. This show is most famous for the multi-camera pro-shot of the TV broadcast, but it was also broadcast in full on the German radio station "NDR2". This live album is the highest quality recording of the radio broadcast version ever made. The order of the songs on the radio version was drastically changed from the TV version, but what is more important is the overwhelmingly great sound. We have been supervised by international Bowie researchers and have updated many great classic soundboard recordings of the highest quality in history. This is one of those recordings, too, and it is a direct CD from the DAT master of the FM broadcast. In fact, the quality of this work is superb. The TV version was official quality, but this radio version is even better. If you listen back carefully, you will realize that the TV version had panned peaks, especially in the drums, which seemed to have a limiting effect, but the radio version does not even have that. The mid-range was beautiful from the moment of attack to the moment it fades away, and the piano that rises and rolls out of it shines brightly, note by note. The heavy bass that creates a jungle beat, which was a key element of the band at that time, is also superb. The bass line is fat, but the flowing line is clear, and the sound is extremely rich, yet not cloudy at all. From bass to treble, from faint tones to peaks, every pitch and volume is clear and smooth, and a glossy feel envelops everything. The sound is completely official. If the television version was an official excavation of the original master, this is an official masterpiece that can be called an official masterpiece on par with the official studio version. There are many masterpiece soundboards from the "Earthlings" era, but this one is the pinnacle in sound quality, length, and special ...... feeling. This is one of the most gorgeous shows of Bowie's entire career, depicted in the ultimate sound. The set anticipated the "EARTHLING TOUR" to be held six months later, and included a large number of new songs from "EARTHLING" that had not yet been released at the time ("The Last Thing You Should Do," "Looking for Satellites" are rare premieres). But more importantly, however, were the splendid guests: Frank Black of PIXIES, Dave Grohl of FOO FIGHTERS, Billy Corgan of SONIC YOUTH and THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, and Robert Smith and Lou Reed of THE CURE. These charismatics, old and new, will perform together to celebrate Bowie's 50th birthday. Here is a list of the songs they will perform together. Frank Black (2 songs), Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), Fashion●Dave Grohl (2 songs), Hallo Spaceboy (with FOO FIGHTERS), Seven Years in Tibet●Sonic Youth (1 song) I'm Afraid of Americans●Robert Smith (2 songs), The Last Thing You Should Do, Quicksand ●Lou Reed (4 songs), Queen Bitch, I'm Waiting for the Man, Dirty Blvd., White Light/White Heat ● Billy Corgan (2 songs) - All the Young Dudes, The Jean Genie The most exciting of all is Lou Reed, who is introduced by Bowie as "The King of New York". UNDERGROUND's "I'm Waiting for the Man" and "White Light/White Heat," "Queen Bitch," which was written with them in mind, and Lou's "Dirty Blvd. Dirty Blvd." is particularly valuable. Bowie also shared vocals on this song, and it was the only time he sang this song on stage. Another special feature of the concert was the birthday song. After the introduction of the band members, Gail Ann Dorothy sang on the piano with Mike Garson, and a large crowd of about 20,000 people followed her. Even after turning 50 years old, Bowie continued to boldly challenge new sounds. This is a superb stereo soundboard album of Bowie's birthday concert in the highest quality ever. Bowie shared the stage with many heroes and passionately performed old and new classics. This is a superb live album that symbolizes "Bowie's 90's", the era of "EARTHLING" .......
