The 6th album released by the veteran POWER/DOOM METAL BAND “MEMORY GARDEN”, which was formed in SWEDEN in 1992 and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year!
Their early demos and EPs became a hot topic in the cult scene, and in 1996 they made their debut with “Tides” from the prestigious Metal Blade Records! Since then, they have steadily released albums such as “Verdict of Posterity” (1998), “Mirage” (2000), “Carnage Carnival” (2008), and “Doomain” (2013). After a long silence, they released their first concept album in 8 years during the pandemic!
The title ``1349'' refers to the year when the Black Death epidemic reached its peak, killing 75 to 200 million people in Eurasia and North Africa, and estimated to have killed 30 to 60 percent of Europe's population, making it the deadliest infectious disease in human history. It is said that the world's population in the 14th century decreased by more than 100 million people from approximately 475 million people due to this epidemic called The Black Death or The Great Mortality, and it is said that it took 200 years to recover.
Based on this concept, the overall tone of the album is filled with gloom, mourning, hopelessness, and pain, and is overwhelmed by a solemn, solemn, and heavy melody that rides on layers of sounds that are assembled like an orchestral suite. Stefan Berylund's powerful voice and heart-touching lyrics conjure up in our imaginations images of the frighteningly long-beaked plague doctor wandering through the empty cobbled streets, dirty diseased alleyways and buildings of medieval cities in medieval Europe, lamenting the loss of life.
Throughout the album, “MEMORY GARDEN” draws parallels to the past two years of experience during the COVID-19 pandemic that the world is currently experiencing, offering a contemporary metaphor for our own confusion, frustration, and fear, and what lies ahead.
