STRATOVARIUS, the leading melodic power metal band from Finland, will release their 16th studio album ``SURVIVE''. The commitment to a "seven-letter album title" that has continued since 2009's 12th album "POLARIS" is still alive and well in this work.
The band had been writing songs even before the COVID-19 pandemic, and their 16th album was due to be released sometime in 2020. However, he used the time when he was stuck to compose music, further improving the quality of his next album, and the result was ``SURVIVE.'' Although the release has been postponed, the album reflects the experience of the pandemic in its songs and lyrics.
Keyboardist Jens Johansson says:
"It took me five or six days to write the lyrics for the title track. When I finally decided on the chorus, it was a great song about survival, and everything seemed to fit. It fit with the history of this band, because we've managed to survive all this time. This band has had an unusual history. The original line-up was formed in 1984, so it's been around a long time. When we wrote these lyrics, there were forest fires everywhere, there was a global pandemic, and all kinds of crazy things were happening. Of course there are a lot of positive lyrics on the album, but there are also lyrics that reflect how we were feeling at the time."
Continuing from their previous albums ``NEMESIS'' and ``ETERNAL'', Jani Limatainen (guitar), former SONATA ARCTICA guitarist, bandmate of CAIN'S OFFERING with Timo Kotipert (vo) and Jens Johansson, and recently active in THE DARK ELEMENT with ex-NIGHTWISH's Annette Olsson (vo), collaborates with STRATOVARIUS. He participates in writing the lyrics and providing backing vocals on several songs.
