British band Evil, who made a major contribution to the resurgence of thrash metal in the late 00s, have released a new album! This album, which emphasizes heaviness and darkness over speed, is a challenge to the thrash scene, which has become a traditional art.

In the latter half of 2000, there was a thrash metal revival. It is a so-called new wave of thrash metal movement. Among them, Britain's Evil played a central role along with Gama Bomb, Warbringer, and Bonded by Blood.
Formed in 1999. Originally called Metal Militia, they mainly played Metallica covers. In 2004, they changed their name to the current Evil and produced a demo that caught the attention of the major British label Earache Records. In 2007, they made their album debut with “Enter the Grave”. Ear Lake was the home of the aforementioned New Wave of Thrash Metal movement, and Evil, along with Gama Bomb and Municipal Waste, attracted a lot of attention as a rising star in the thrash metal world. In 2009, they released their second album, Infected Nations. However, during a European tour in the same year, tragedy struck when bassist Mike Alexander suddenly passed away at the young age of only 32. The band decided to carry on with Mike's wishes. In addition, he released two albums, ``Five Serpent's Teeth'' (2011) and ``Skull'' (2013). However, after that, guitarist Ol Drake left the band, and the band remained silent for a while.
Orr returned in 2018. In 2021, Ivar signed a contract with Austrian major Napalm Records and released his fifth album ``Hell Unleashed'', his first in eight years. It sent fans who had been waiting for their comeback into a frenzy. They are now releasing their 6th album.
This work, entitled ``The Unknown,'' is a complete change from the band's fastest previous work, and is a very elaborate and dark work. Emphasis on heaviness rather than speed. Melodic but melancholy vocals. Correspondingly, the lyrics are also very heavy, with themes such as depression, loss, and recurring nightmares, and it's clear that the band is trying to break new ground. They originally started out as a copy band of Metallica. ``The Unknown'' also has a strong scent of Metallica from the late 80's to the 90's. This work can be said to be a challenge to a scene that has become a traditional art, as if to say, "Who decided that thrash metal had to be fast?" On the other hand, there is no doubt that this heaviness and darkness hit the essence of heavy metal. This is a must-listen, especially for fans of Metallica in the mid-era.
