Locke's theory of evolution continues. A new chapter begins for the super heavy technical project DarWin, which is extremely progressive and melodic!

This project started by songwriter and guitarist DW in 2018 has resonated with talented musicians from around the world. Simon Phillips (drums/co-stars with Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, TOTO, etc.), Mohini Day (bass/co-stars with B'z, Willow Smith, etc.), Greg Howe (guitar/co-stars with Michael Jackson, etc.), Derek Sherinian (keyboards/co-stars with Dream Theater, etc.), and Matt Bissonnette (vocals). "Distorted Mirror" is their fifth album, which has effectively functioned as a "band."

A hyper-technical progressive fusion album created by heavy metallic sounds and a sci-fi worldview, typified by lead tracks such as ``Man vs Machine'' and ``33rd Century Man.'' A thrilling development featuring transcendental play that will not let you lose your attention even for a moment, expanding the listener's imagination infinitely. However, without getting too carried away with their technique, the rhythm section's earth-shaking grooves and beats also have deep bass that shakes your body. Another feature of this work is that the emotion of the songwriting, which combines singable melodies and hooks, has been further strengthened and continues throughout the album. From the lyrical and vivid phrasing of ``Rising Distortion,'' which opens the door to a new world, to the pop-like ``Cry A River,'' to the seven and a half minute long ``Winter Fare,'' which can be described as an evolution of fusion in the 21st century, the album toys with the listener like an epic poem.

The artwork is also futuristic, suggesting the next step from the previous work "First Steps On The Sun" (2024), and the very existence of DarWin is a grand concept and a journey full of creativity. Following the previous work, it was recorded at Maul "Powerplay Studio" in Switzerland. Produced by DW and Simon Phillips, this work embodies their own vision. "Man vs Machine" was released on YouTube in June 2025 and received 450,000 views in the first two weeks. This proved that the amount of attention to the new work is extraordinary. The second leader track, "Loophole," featuring vocals by Matt Bissonnette and Andrew Freeman (Lynch Mob - Last in Line), is also doing well, but by listening to the album as a whole, you will be able to see the whole picture of a new world through a "distorted mirror."
