Dimmu Borgir is the king of black metal in Norway, or indeed the world. Formed in 1993 by Sven Atle Kopperud (Silenoz) and Stian Thoresen (Shagrath), they made their name during the heyday of second wave black metal, and have remained at the top of the scene for over 30 years. With a unique style that combines symphonic grandeur and sinister aesthetics, they have established a monumental status in metal history through works such as ``Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia'' and ``Death Cult Armageddon.'' His creative approach is one that does not allow any compromise. Especially since ``Abrahadabra'' (2010), they have released their work to the world only when they are sure that everything is in place, without being influenced by trends or schedules. Their attitude of rejecting haste and pursuing thorough quality is what makes them unique.

Dimmu Borgir is releasing a new album. Eight years have passed since his previous work, ``Eonian,'' and this work, titled ``Grand Serpent Rising,'' boasts an overwhelming scale and is worthy of breaking that long silence. Consisting of a total of 13 songs, it has a harsh yet diverse content, and is a high-level fusion of the wildness of early black metal and the precise construction power cultivated over many years of activity.

Production has been progressing intermittently since around 2018, with each member individually accumulating ideas even during the pandemic. When they finally got together, they had enough songs to make a two-disc set. The songs carefully selected from among them have a rich content that has been stripped of all waste. Musically, we emphasized the lively dynamism of a band while slightly suppressing traditional symphonic elements. The recording, produced by Fredrik Nordström, eliminates excessive digital processing and pursues an organic and powerful sound with an emphasis on a live feel.

``Grand Serpent Rising'' is a definitive work that shows Dimmu Borgir's current position, and its overwhelming perfection and spirituality prove once again that they are still at the top of black metal. A must-listen for all extreme metal fans!
