Stereo soundboard master of the 1986 Roskilde Festival is now available! ROSKILDE FESTIVAL 1986" was released in May 2014 and sold out due to its high quality. This title captures Clapton and his new band performing at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark on July 4, 1986. The sound image was so clear and clear that one could easily mistake it for a soundboard recording. The quality and content of the recording more than made up for the incomplete soundboard recording (the head was cut in, and the final section after Cocaine, the highlight of the recording, was not included in the PA out, which was a real shame). Now, however, the soundboard master has been brought to us by a well-known taper in the U.K., and the sound quality is truly official. The sound quality is official. The sound quality is of the official level, and if there were no cuts, the master would be of perfect quality. So here it is, the superb audience master of the previously released "ROSKILDE FESTIVAL 1986". The missing parts of the soundboard master (as noted in the song list) were filled in with this superb stereo audience master to make the content perfect. The audience master has extremely good sound quality, so it is almost unnatural to connect it with the soundboard. This is the most representative title of the 1986 tour. Let's review Clapton's activities during this year from the recording of "AUGUST," the album on which this tour was based. The following is a summary of Clapton's activities during this year. December 23, 1986: Performs at Gary Brooker's charity concert at the Village Hall in Dunsfold, Surrey, England. Clapton had met two local session musicians called "Team A," Nathan East (bass) and Greg Philingains (keyboards), and the two hit it off, splitting off from their previous support band members and inviting them to record the new album. The producer was a friend, as he had been on the previous album. The album was recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, and was produced by a friend, Phil Collins, as on the previous album. Clapton was in such a groove that songs came out one after another, and recording was completed in two weeks. Clapton was so enthusiastic about playing with the new members that he decided to wait until the album was released to embark on a short tour of European jazz festivals in July. The only previous times Clapton had toured with a setlist consisting of new songs before the release of an album were his comeback tour in 1974 and the Japan tour in 1977. Clapton must have been itching to perform his new songs. The officially released "Montreux Jazz Festival" is also a live performance from this tour, but the setlist on the day of this album includes one more song, After Midnight. The tempo and rhythm of After Midnight is a rare arrangement only available on this occasion. The numbers from the new album were Wanna Make Love To You (although this song was eventually replaced by It's In The Way That You Use It and was dropped from the album), Run, Miss You, Tearing Us Apart, Holy Mother, and Behind The Mask. Clapton, inspired by the two dynamic black musicians, also plays a lot. It is interesting to note that, influenced by these two musicians, the impression of the new songs as well as the best-known songs of the past has changed to a black contemporary taste. East plays in a fusion style, even using a chopper technique, while Philingaines uses jazzy chords and synths to give Clapton's songs a new twist. White Room and I Shot The Sheriff are also very sharp. Same Old Blues is a much longer version than the previous year's performance. Clapton says that there was a moment when East and Philingaines, both from jazz and fusion backgrounds with no primitive blues backgrounds, clearly changed their mind about their roots by playing this song. The ideal band to inspire each other was born that year: YMO's Behind The Mask, a surprising number that also appears on the album, but here with Greg Philingaines on vocals. There is actually a backstory to this. Philingains had previously suggested the song to Michael Jackson, and Michael even wrote the lyrics, but they didn't make it onto the album. Philingaines took it and included it on his solo album "PULSE". For the session with Clapton, Philinghaines suggested the song again to Clapton, who accepted it. Clapton adopted the song, but in the early live performances, he sang the vocals because Clapton wanted to feature Philingaynes, who was the driving force behind the song. The band members were made up of talented and elite musicians. The black musicians selected to join the New Band were familiar to Japanese audiences. Nathan East had already visited Japan in 1984 as a member of the Japan tour of Kenny Loggins, who sang the theme song for "Footloose," a coming-of-age movie starring Kevin Bacon that was a big hit in Japan, and had also appeared on Japanese television. He had also appeared on TV. Greg Phillinghaines was the man who had been the musical director for that Michael Jackson, and he had a heavy responsibility for the project. Both of them were behind the scenes supporting the lead roles, but their abilities were well-known. Another attraction of this tour was that the drummer was Phil Collins. Phil Collins was the drummer for the British progressive band Genesis, and later became a key figure in the band, as well as a breakout solo artist. In 1979, Clapton played on Collins' first solo album, and they had a close musical relationship as well. Clapton wanted Collins to break new ground for himself, and asked him to produce BEHIND THE SUN. He liked his work so much that he asked him to produce "AUGUST" as well, and to his surprise, Collins played drums on all the songs. Collins also played drums on all the songs. After the recording was completed, he joined the tour as it was. Collins loves black music, and the two new members must have fallen in love with Collins as well. The four elite members gave a well-honed performance on this stage. It is a must-see. As a side note, when you listen to Clapton's introduction of the band members at Further On Up The Road, there are only three supporting members, but for some reason, Wanna Make Love To You has a female chorus. (Technically, Behind The Mask also has a female chorus, but I'll leave that one out because it sounds like a sequencer that Philingaynes put in place.) Why is that? Why didn't they use it on Same Old Blues or Tearing Us Apart? Perhaps Clapton felt that this song was the only one that needed Clapton, so he staged a tape of the female chorus to be played. I'm not sure what the truth is.
