An upgraded version of the 1987 Dortmund concert is now available! The master recording of the Dortmund show on January 20, 1987, was released on the Internet as "Dortmund 1987", and was used to supplement the ultra high quality AUD of "Miss You". We have produced the best quality master of Dortmund, which is suitable for the pressings again. The main master used was the aforementioned "Miss You" released on 6CD in December 2006. The superb stereo audience recording of the Dortmund performance included in that release was newly remastered and recorded (and the fast pitch was corrected), and the new online master was used to fill in the missing parts, resulting in perfect sound quality and a comfortable, easy listening experience. The "Dortmund 1987" (2CDR) disc is a little far away from the sound, so it picks up the applause of a large group of people in a rambling way, but this disc is closer to the sound, so it picks up the paraphrased applause of the people around it, which is more realistic. As you can tell by listening to it, the realism and power of the musical sound is as if it were a soundboard recording. I recommend this film as the definitive version of this day. Clapton's performance changed like a different person between the 1985 tour and the "August Tour" after 1986. This is because he employed black musicians from the fusion field as support musicians for the band. With their inspiration, the stage, like the album, took on a black contemporary color. Let us now take a look at Clapton's energetic activity history in 1987. January 3-January 30: European Tour ←★here★★ ・March 27: Special gig at Cranleigh Country Golf Club in Surrey, England ・April 11-April 27: American Tour ・May 6: Flew in for Lionel Richie's performance at Wembley Arena in London ・June 5: Clapton's first appearance on stage at the Wembley Arena in London May 6: Performed at the "Princes Trust Concert" at Wembley Arena in London. June 18: Skipped Tina Turner's performance at Wembley Arena, London. September 4: Performed at Lonnie Earl's Roomful of Blues at the Lonestar Cafe in New York City. October 9: Skipped the Buddy Guy Trio gig at Dingwall, London ・October 23-27: Australia tour ・November 2-9: Japan tour ・December 19: Charity show at Village Hall, Dunsfold, UK As you can see, Clapton had a busy year, either touring, skipping gigs with other artists, or performing in charity concerts every month. Clapton had been eager to perform live since the previous year, driven by the momentum and confidence of his "AUGUST" album. The January '87 tour was the first tour in which Clapton retired the "Blackie" Strat that he had used for 11 years and started using a new signature model prototype provided by Fender. (A custom Strat in Ferrari Red finish was used on this tour.) (On this tour, he used a custom Strat with a Ferrari red finish.) Clapton's tone was not a dead vintage sound like Blackie's, but rather a gingery, edgy tone, showing a new frontier in his playing. The setlist was also drastically changed from the 1985 tour, and it was refreshing to see Clapton start the show with the classic song Crossroads, which was followed by a furious and powerful performance. Four numbers from the then new album "AUGUST" were included in the set (Hung Up On Your Love, Miss You, Tearing Us Apart, and Holy Mother), and the band performed some of their best-known songs while retaining their black contemporary style. The impression of this stage can be summed up in one word: sharpness. I had never heard Clapton play with such sharpness. The way he played "Tearing Us Apart" was especially amazing, and in "Badge," he played a very long solo in the introduction before singing, which was very rare in the live performance of the same song. The rest of the numbers also benefited from the minimal band structure, and the band played wonderfully, with each member bringing out their best. The band groove was clearly amplified, and each member played with sharpness and timing in various places as if they were savoring the groove. The effect can be easily seen in "Same Old Blues," which is played for over 18 minutes and is comparable to a progressive music suite, but the harmony between backing guitars and vocals in "I Shot The Sheriff," "Miss You," and other vocal pieces, and the thrilling "Layla" are also well-known. This is one of the most representative performances of the '87 tour. This master was originally included in the 6CD set, so if you don't have it, it's worth a listen as a single, superb, complete recording. This is a record that shows Clapton's transformation into a contemporary artist at this point in his career, having previously developed a not-so-flamboyant stage presence rooted in blues and American roots music. The stage captured here also shows one aspect of Clapton's greatness. ★ Remastered from the 1987 Dortmund concert recorded on the previously released "Miss You" Beano-018.
