This disc is a collection of outtakes from the hit album "Journeyman," which presented contemporary musicianship and reached #16 in the US when it was released in 1989. Produced from masters leaked from studio personnel, all songs are recorded in stereo soundboard recording on par with the official version. The backing band includes Greg Philingains (keyboards & vocals), Nathan East (bass & vocals), and Phil Collins (drums & vocals), all of whom were in the Clapton band at the time. Of note are a number of previously unreleased songs that did not make the album, including Forever, Don't Turn Your Back, Something About You, Murdoch's Men, and Higher Power. Recording took place at Power Station Studios in New York City from March to April 1989, at the same time that Clapton was recording the movie "Lethal Weapon 3," for which he was also working on the soundtrack. The instrumentals Murdoch's Men and Higher Power were probably intended for the soundtrack, but both songs were not included on the soundtrack, so they are valuable as outtakes from the soundtrack. Greg Philingains. Perhaps he contributed to the songwriting on this song (the vocalist on Something About You is unknown; it's It doesn't sound like Nathan East...). As for the album tracks, these are somewhat rough, overdubbed, but live, one-shot takes before becoming master takes, and the guitar solos, vocals, and backing are all different from the album takes. All the songs are played out in full, allowing for focused listening; Lead Me On features soul artists Womack & Womack, as on the album; Running On Faith, although the album featured a take with a dobro solo; and the album features a take with a dobro solo, although the album features a dobro solo, here you can hear a take that features an electric guitar solo. The entire album is filled with unreleased material and performances that differ from the album, so this is a valuable record that provides an interesting glimpse into the "eve of completion" of the popular "Journeyman" album.
