The excitement is still building for Eric Clapton's 2019 Japan tour, which has received great reviews with five consecutive weeks of super high quality titles. The following month, Clapton performed three shows at the Royal Albert Hall (RAH) in his hometown of London. Clapton, who has been performing so energetically that it is hard to believe that he has announced his retirement from touring, is now releasing a high-quality sound recording of the first day performance on May 13 from the just-concluded RAH show, also in super speed! The master of this disc is the original stereo audience recording made by a Japanese taper who came all the way to England to see Clapton. This release of the "hot" first generation master from the taper who just returned from Japan will please not only Clapton fans but also many other rock fans who saw the Japan concert. However, when the curtain opened, the setlist was unexpected, including two unexpected numbers that had never been played in Japan before. The opening number Que sera sera, dedicated to Doris Day, who passed away on that day at the age of 97, was a rare performance that was given only on the first day of the concert. The encore, which usually ends with "High Time We Went" featuring Paul Carrack, was a performance of "Purple Rain" by the late Prince. And during the closing chorus of "Oh~Oh~Oh~," Clapton, in a truly rare moment, encouraged the audience to sing along by posing with his ear close to the audience. The rhythm of "Tearing Us Apart" became heavier and less lively, "Five Long Years" was arranged in a more orthodox way (this song was played only on the first day), and "Layla" was played in an electric version, which Clapton had been so reluctant to play on the Japan tour. The London audience also enjoyed the electric version of "Layla," which they had been reluctant to play on the Japan tour for a long time. Holy Mother may have been a tribute to Doris Day, if you think about it imaginatively. Motherless Children, which has been a long time coming, is also good! Seven of the 17 songs were replaced from the Japan show. There has not been a stage in decades where Wonderful Tonight and Cocaine, which have been played as a matter of course, were not played. If this is such a valuable set list, you have no choice but to listen to it. Clapton, who had been looking tired in the latter half of the Japan tour, was in high spirits at RAH (well, he had a month's rest, so it was only natural). Anyway, please take your time to enjoy this amazing setlist in high quality sound. The master is vacuum-packed as if it had been flown in from London. This is a must have for all Clapton fans.
