New master of Eric Clapton's 2009 RAH concert in superb sound quality! The new master of Eric Clapton's 2009 RAH show at the Royal Albert Hall in London, May 25, 2009 is now available in superb stereo from the UK's leading taper, who is well-known for his treasured recordings. This is the DAT master of the 7th show, May 25th, from the series of Clapton's Royal Albert Hall concerts in London in 2009. We have previously released this recording as "ROAMING THIS OLD HIGHWAY" (4CD), and we were delighted with its amazingly high sound quality, which was like a soundboard recording. This time, however, we were provided with a DAT master of even higher quality than that, provided by a major taper! It is hard to believe that this is an audience recording! The sound is so distinctive. It sounds just like a good soundboard recording. The setlist and band members have changed since the Japan tour in 2009, and this is a must have for this mid-year Clapton live release. The setlist and band members have changed since the Japan tour in 2009, making this a must-see live performance of Clapton's during the year. The setlist was completely different from that of the Japan tour. February 12-28, 2009: 11 concerts in Japan (including a joint performance with Jeff Beck at Saitama Super Arena on February 21 and 22), March 4-10, 2009: Short Oceania tour, March 19 and 20, 2009: Guest appearance at the Allman Brothers Band's 40th anniversary concert, March 20, 2009: Guest appearance at the Allman Brothers Band's 40th anniversary concert. May 4, 2009: Guest appearance at a concert by guitarist Joe Bonamassa at the Royal Albert Hall in London, May 9, 2009: Performed at the Banbury Cricket Club charity event at the Grosvenor Howth Hotel in London, May 10, 2009: Performed as a guest at the Allman Brothers Band 40th anniversary concert, March 4-10, 2009: Short tour of Oceania, March 19-20, 2009. May 9, 2009: Performed at the "Banbury Cricket Club" charity event at the Grosvenor Howth Hotel in London, May 11-31, 2009: UK tour including 11 shows at the Royal Albert Hall ←★here★★★ June 10-30, 2009: American tour October 20, 2009: Performed at the BBC Television Studios for the music program "Later. Later.... October 20, 2009: Clapton appeared as Smokey Robinson's guest on the music program "Later...With Jools Holland" at BBC Television Studios (this was an emergency appearance due to the illness of Robinson's regular guitarist). November 23, 2009: Clapton performed with Aretha Franklin, Ozzy Osbourne, U2, and others at the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary Ceremony" at Madison Square Garden in New York City. December 31, 2009: Held the annual charity concert "New Year's Eve Dance" for AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). This included a joint concert with Jeff Beck in Japan. This was the seventh of eleven consecutive nights of performances at the Royal Albert Hall in his hometown. In other words, it was a good time for the band to play in the familiar surroundings of their hometown. For those of you who like the Japan tour recordings, the first thing to note is that drummer Steve Gadd replaced Abe Labrial Jr. When it comes to Clapton's music, it is safe to say that no one is more "in" than Gadd. Because of this absolute sense of security, Clapton has dramatically changed the set list from the Japan tour. Even the opening number was different, starting with Going Down Slow, which Clapton had not played since the "Reptile Tour" in 2001, eight years ago. Both this song and Old Love were played in the arrangement from the "Pilgrim Tour" in 1998. This is mainly due to the fact that Tim Carmon was still on keyboards in 1998, and Carmon's synth solo on Old Love is excellent, but he also uses his synthesizer playability to create a new version of Anything For Your, his first in 17 years since 1992. Love, his first performance on the synthesizer in 17 years since 1992, is also a treat to hear. Clapton's chalking on this song reveals a finger strength on par with that of the Journeyman Tour of 1990, and you can see that 19 years have not diminished him at all. The highlight of the first half, "I Shot The Sheriff," is the solo in the postlude, which is very delicate and emotional, as only Clapton can play it, although it is not played with the overwhelming force and speed that Clapton used to play at his best. It is a sad solo that seems to tell the story of one man's struggle to escape false accusations. It is a performance that I highly recommend listening to. Also, from this night, the blues song "Driftin'" was performed instead of the Dylan cover "Not Dark Yet," which had been included in the previous concerts. Another rare selection was Anytime For You, a blues number by Clapton's beloved Big Maceo. This was the first time the song was covered live. As soon as the performance began, the mood was as if the venue had been transformed into a stage of a remote American saloon. The protagonist of this activity was Chris Stinton on piano. The fact that Clapton's band was able to achieve this mood, and that they performed the standard "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," which was an encore number on the 2003 tour, in the middle of the sitting set was nothing short of amazing in its variety. While the first half of the show was exciting to see what would come out of the band, the second half of the setlist was more of the same, but the performance was generally excellent, and the audience could enjoy a full performance with an overwhelming sense of scale on all the songs. Cocaine's solo on this day was interesting in that he started with an unusual phrase, but I can say that the slow hand technique that folded out from the middle of the solo was the best performance of the day. It was brilliant! Clapton has usually played this song at the end of his regular set, but he is usually very tired and his brilliant solos are rarely heard anymore since the 2000s! The Royal Albert Hall show was held on a rare date after the Japan tour, but the drummer was changed and the setlist was also changed drastically.
