This is a laborious collection of sessions from 1970, including completely first-time recordings! It is well known that Eric Clapton has always been active in session work with other artists. This release is a compilation of his session activities in 1970, the year he formed Derek & The Dominos. During that year, Clapton played with a total of 18 artists and bands. Some of the recordings are newly discovered, while others are rare and no longer available. This is a must have for those who became Clapton fans after his comeback in 1974 or after "Unplugged" in 1992. The songs are in chronological order. Clapton was always such a good guitar player. Let me introduce the key points of each song. CD1 14. Wally Heider Studio Jam is the first appearance of this album. Some of the other tracks have been brushed up, so don't miss them. CD1 1. Labio-Dental Fricative 2. Paper Round This is a session for a single by Vivian Stanshall, a member of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, at Trident Studios in London in January. The two songs were released in February under the name Vivian Stanshall and the Sean Head Showband. Clapton is credited as one of the songwriters on both songs, and his guitar playing on both songs is instantly recognizable. It was an inconspicuous single and was not a hit, so it was quickly scrapped. Furthermore, "Paper Round" has never been released on CD, possibly because the master tape was damaged or lost. The digital copy of this rare single is included here. 3. Rockin' 50's Rock'N'Roll 4. That'll Be The Day Also in January, Clapton participated in a session for the revival album of The Crickets, Buddy Holly's band from the 50's. The album was released on the same month. Clapton was working on his first solo album at the time, and it is thought that he joined the Crickets as a thank-you for their participation. Since this is a cover of Buddy Holly's "ROCKIN' 50s," Clapton may have tried to avoid showing too much Clapton color (Clapton is actually a very humble person). This song is from the album "ROCKIN' 50'S ROCK'N'ROLL," but it was only released in 2000 on a very rare US CD. 5. Encore Jam 2 This is a take from the encore jam at the Fleetwood Mac gig led by Peter Green at the Boston Tea Party in Boston on May 5. 0'50" to 1' 01" and from 9'35" to 10'35", the Les Paul tone on which Clapton plays the solo is believed to be Clapton's playing. Other members of the band included Green, members of Mac's band, and Joe Walsh of the James Gang, who played in front of the band, so it was a gorgeous session with many guitars overlapping each other. Encore Jam 2 On February 8, Peter Green flew in for an encore at the Delaney & Bonnie & Friends gig, this time at the Boston Tea Party. Clapton took the initiative from the beginning of this jam. Clapton is using a Stratocaster on this stage. You can enjoy a lot more guitar battles between Green and Clapton in this jam. Is Delaney Bramlett playing rhythm guitar in the right channel? This is a recording from Stephen Stills' first solo album. Clapton participated in the session at Island Studios in London in March as a friend. Clapton joined the session at Island Studios in London in March, apparently in return for Stills' participation on his own solo album. Clapton entered the studio and said, "Let me practice a little. Clapton came into the studio and said, "Let me practice a little," and the take he played while listening to the backing track of "Go Back Home" was accepted at first listen. Clapton is so amazing. Fishes And Scorpions" was rotated for Stills' second solo album. Stills must have thought that Clapton's playing was so good that it would be a shame to put two songs on one album. I'm Your Spiritual Breadman In March, Clapton performed at the De Lane Lee Sound Centre in London with his friend and godfather Derek & The Dominos. Clapton participated in the album session of Ashton, Gardner & Dyke, a trio band formed by keyboardist Tony Ashton, who was a friend of Clapton and godfather of "Derek & The Dominos". Due to contractual issues, the credited musician's name was "Sir Cedric Clayton. Clapton plays sharply on the left channel, but George Harrison also plays a center channel Twangy-style guitar under the alias of "George O'Hara Smith". This is a hidden gorgeous session. From the album "THE WORST OF ASHTON, GARDNER AND DYKE". 10. Don't You Believe It This is a number from the session for new artist Jonathan Kelly's debut single at IBC Studios in London in March. This number is from the session of new artist Jonathan Kelly's debut single at IBC Studios in London, also in March. It is believed that Clapton was asked to perform the number after being backed by Ashton, Gardner & Dyke. At this point, even before he was taught by Duane Allman at the "LAYLA" session in August, Clapton was already showing off his excellent slide playing and enhancing the quality of the song. From the album "JONATHAN KELLY" 11. WASHITA LOVE CHILD Indian swamp guitarist Jesse Ed Davis' first solo album session took place at Olympic Studios in London from April 15-17. Clapton had liked Davis since his days with the Taj Mahal Band, and he was a willing participant. The solo heard on this song is truly Clapton's quintessential performance. The halftone sound of the Strat + his one and only hand vibrato + vigorous phrasing = this is Clapton! Going Down Slow On May 2, a recording session was held at Olympic Studios in London with blues great Howlin' Wolf and backed by British rock musicians. Rumor has it that the reason for the session was that Marshall Chess, the president of Chess Records in the U.S., who organized the session, and Clapton's drug dealer were the same person. The Apple label rhythm section for this take was Ringo Starr on drums and Klaus Voorman on bass. Clapton was the only guitarist. At the invitation of Carlos Santana, who Clapton had met and hit it off with in the U.S., Clapton took a break from his U.S. tour with Dominos from October 18 to 20, and performed at the Village Recorders Studio Jam in Los Angeles. From October 18 to 20, Clapton participated in the recording sessions for the "SANTANA 3" album at the Village Recorder's Studio in Los Angeles. Clapton's guitar take was not included on the official album, but there are clear traces of his participation in this unreleased jam. After that, Neal Schon seems to be the one who plays a solo on the right channel as if he is challenging Clapton. This is an extremely valuable session. From the mid-valley release "VILLAGE RECORDERS TAPES". 14. Wally Heider Studio Jam This historical session was probably recorded at the same time as 13. at Wally Heider Studio in San Francisco! Members credited as Michael Caravello, Michael Shreve, Chepito Areas, Neal Schon (above, Santana), Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane), David Crosby and Clapton. 3'09 "~The guitar solo heard in the left channel is Clapton himself. The guitar used is probably a Brownie Strat. After that, Neal Schon plays a solo in the right channel with a tone that seems to be that of a Les Paul. 53 years have passed, and this historic session has seen the light of day. This is the first appearance of this session. CD2 01. Medicated Goo 02. You Can't Always Get What You Want 03. Clapton's manager Robert Stigwood's newly signed black female singer P.P. Arnold's debut album session took place at IBC Studios in London on June 10, July 21, and July 30, with Derek & The Dominos backing and Clapton producing at Stigwood's request. The recording went kaput and was finally released in 2022. This is a very rare session that, if you think about it, can be taken as a guest singer on a Dominos album (except on "Born," where Manfred Mann's Steve York plays bass in place of the late Carl Reidl). Her voice with a pop sensibility was also very useful, and she continued to be active in the British rock scene (she is famous for her work with Small Faces and Pink Floyd). 05. Tiptina Dr. John was on tour in Europe from July 9 to 11, and in between, he recorded an album at Trident Studios in London. Dr. John was on tour in Europe from July 9 to 11, and recorded the album at Trident Studios in London. Clapton and the rest of the Dominos joined him. The album "SUN, MOON AND HERBS" was released in August 1971 and included the songs recorded at that time, but Clapton's playing was only a little on the slide guitar, which was not noticeable. However, the album was originally intended to be a three-LP set, and when the missing master tapes were discovered 50 years later, they contained many outtakes. The expanded 3LP version was released as a limited edition for Record Store Day, but in fact, there were outtakes that were omitted from that version as well, so we have decided to release the 3LP version as a limited edition for Record Store Day.
