An unexpected dark horse, highly recommended title for Clapton's 2019 Japan tour is now available! This 4-CD set is made directly from the best recording masters by a renowned Kanto taper. The contents are a coupling of the first day, April 13, and the last day, April 20. From the unexpectedly powerful opening of Pretending, Wanna Make Love to You from the "August" period, which surprised maniacs, to the electric Layla, which was played for the first time in Japan in 10 years, to Before You Accuse Me, and Cocaine, which was the last big round with John Mayer as a guest. The first day of the show was so special that many fans would still welcome a better recording, but this take is just the right one. Recorded from the perfect position in Arena A4, this take has an appealing, robust sound image that is the opposite of the lighter digital recordings that are so popular these days, and this image is perfect for Clapton's live performances. Deep and rich, clean yet mild and warm, this is the best sound of the show. The second half of the disc features the final show of the night, the 20th, and it sounds just as good as the first show. The advanced microphones are definitely used, and the sound is fat and stable, allowing the audience to relive the emotional final show. This is a recording from the southwest front seats of the first floor stand, and perhaps because the sound is captured directly from the PA, the sound is very close and clear without feeling the remoteness of the sound from the stand seats. It is a top level recording that makes you feel nostalgic in a good way, and the sound image is just perfect for Clapton's show. This is a highly recommended 4-disc set that captures the popular first night and the memorable last night of the show.
