We are pleased to announce the release of the superb sound recording of the legendary first day of Eric Clapton's Japan Tour 2019, which ended with a great success after five shows! We are pleased to announce the release of "Budokan 2019 Day 1" and "Budokan 2019 Day 1: New Masters", both of which were released in super fast time and in high sound quality, but we wanted to release another super high sound quality disc. The master of this disc, which was recently uploaded to the Internet, has the highest sound quality of all the Schoeps MK4 microphone recordings. We have remastered the master to take the sound to the next level, and have improved the sound to the very limit without overdoing it. I assure you. This disc is the best sound source of the first night! I am sure many fans already know why this first day performance brought such a shock to the audience, but I will mention it again. It was in the set list. In recent years, Clapton has not made any major changes to the setlist, and he successfully defied most people's expectations that he would start slowly with another favorite unreleased J.J. Cale number, Somebody's Knocking, and started hard with Pretending, the top number from his 1989 album, Journeyman. We started hard with Pretending. This was the day that foreshadowed that something was different. That actually came true with the third song, Wanna Make Love to You, a hidden gem (an outtake from the album "AUGUST") that had not been played for 30 years since 1989. The intro of the song had been rearranged from the original version, so much so that even the most enthusiastic fan could not recall the name of the song. Clapton's solo on this song was full of melancholy and songfulness. The new custom Strat with smoky green finish roared like a cry of anguish. The selection was enough to surprise even longtime fans. Clapton's live stage performance of "I Shot The Sheriff" has earned him a reputation as one of the best first half of his live show, and although he played some mistones in the beginning of his post-solo, he struggled to bring himself back to his old level. There was an aggressive Clapton there, carefully building up his solo as if to check each note, as if to return to his old self. There was the old Clapton, still great even in his old age. The audience cheered loudly, and the stage went into an acoustic set. After a few moments of quiet, wonderful Martin tones, the stage shifted back to a standing set. Here, Clapton struck the crucible of excitement in the audience with "Electric" Layla, his first performance in Japan in 10 years. In recent years, Clapton had been in poor health and had only performed "unplugged" Layla in his acoustic sets, but he performed the original version, which consumes much more energy, at the end of his sitting set. The excitement in the audience at that time is captured realistically in this recording. It was a tremendous cheer. In fact, there is a story behind the appearance of this unexpected number at an unexpected spot that was later revealed. On the leaked set list sheet of the first day of the tour, Layla was listed as the finale of the main (regular) set. The electric number after the acoustic set was Badge on the sheet. The truth is that Clapton, who was so excited to play the electric Layla that he had not played it for a long time, got the order of the songs wrong and played Layla here instead of at the end. He repeated the intro seven-note phrase three times and turned to Doyle with a big smile on his face, saying, "Hey, I got the order of the songs wrong. Follow me." That's what he meant. What a happening! Clapton was so excited that he got the order of the songs wrong. Crossroads was great, Little Queen of Spades was great, and Before You Accuse Me was great! And Before You Accuse Me was a complete surprise, not even on the setlist sheet (I'm sure the band was surprised). This was one of the factors that made the first night so "special". Now, what was the encore? The audience was wondering what the encore was going to be, and along with Clapton, John Mayer, a young guitarist who had just finished a Budokan concert two days earlier, appeared on stage. The venue was a crucible of excitement. Naturally, the arena seats were on their feet. Mayer chose Cocaine, which is easy to play on the pentatonic scale. It is likely that Clapton knew before the show started that Mayer was going to jump in, and saved this song for Mayer's jump-in. Naturally, the second solo was given to Mayer, and he took a long solo with a heartbreaking phrase. The encores after the second day were the same as before, High Time We Went featuring Paul Carrack, so the first day was "special.
