Jeff Beck visited Japan in 1978 with the masterful Stanley Clarke. The world premiere audience master of this shocking event has been newly unearthed. The master was recorded at Nippon Budokan on December 1, 1978, and is one of the most popular recordings of Jeff Beck's visit to Japan in 1978. First of all, let's sort out the collection by the dates of that time and check the position of the show. November 20: Ibaraki Prefectural Cultural Center, November 22: Ishikawa Kosei-Nenkin Kaikan, November 23: Kurashiki Civic Hall, November 24: Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, November 26: "DEFINITIVE NAGOYA 1978", November 28: "CAT MOVES (Fukuoka)", November 29: "OSAKA 1978 2ND NIGHT", November 30: Nippon Budokan "BUDOKAN 1978 DAY 1", December 1: Nippon Budokan [this work], December 2: Nippon Budokan "OUT OF DARKNESS" *Only representative works for each day. These are the total of 10 performances. This album is the live album of the middle day. This album is the live album of the middle day of the tour, and this show is known as one of the best performances in 1978. Stanley was in great shape from the beginning of the tour, but Jeff's condition was not so good anymore. Not that he was particularly sluggish, but rather unfamiliar. The show had some great playing in places, but there were also a few mistakes. Jeff started to get better in the second half of the Japan tour, especially at the Nippon Budokan, the highlight of the tour. The second day at the Budokan, the ensemble reached the perfection of the 1978 JEFF BECK GROUP. The second day of the Budokan show was a monumental show, but the recording did not quite live up to the expectations of the audience. There have been several audience recordings of the show, but they have all been of poor quality. While the performances were well known for their excellence, the sound alone was not enough to make an overwhelming live album. This album marks the end of that history. The fact that it was newly unearthed 41 years after the show is a surprise in itself, but the contents are also amazing. This is the only original master that was given to us by the recording artist himself, and what is most amazing is the on core and detailed detail. It is not a close recording that could be mistaken for a soundboard, but the core that comes through the clear, transparent air is lush with detail and full of response. As a matter of fact, while the band as a whole is not without a sense of distance in tone, the exception is Jeff's guitar. It penetrates through the entire ensemble and comes right at you with a gusto. I mentioned earlier that "you can't mistake this for a soundboard," but when it comes to the guitar, it's as close as a line recording. Moreover, the more the show progresses, the better it gets, which is amazing. The high quality of the recording is exploding from the beginning of the show, but in the second half, the entire band's on-key quality increases, as if the on-site PA is getting better. Stanley's bass, in particular, was detailed to the level of the vibe, both in the attack springiness and the undulating groove. The two lines of the bass intertwine with Jeff's selfish guitar and weave up a tapestry of clear contours. It is not just a matter of the guitar and bass being easy to hear, but a subtle sense of each other's breathing, as if they are reading each other's next move, even before it becomes a sound. Of course, this is without a doubt the best recording of the second day at Nippon Budokan in total, but the guitar sound and the improved second half is one of the best in the whole of 1978. The sound of the second half of the album is one of the best in the entire year 1978. The guitar playing is more intense than ever before, and the band is in top form from the beginning of the song, which is followed by "Star Cycle" and "Freeway Jam". Cat Moves," which started with a guitar riff, also heated up towards the latter half. Stanley, who shares the stage with Jeff, is also excellent. His laconic solo was also very good, followed by "School Days" and "Lopsy Lu," both excellent. He was also very good on "Journey To Love," which has been a part of the set since the Japan tour, scatting "rah rah rah" and dancing colorful phrases. The mood of the show was also very good, probably due to the ensemble's great energy. After "Journey To Love," Jeff teased Stanley with an MC, and Stanley counted "Ichinny Sanshi Ichinny Sanshi" in Japanese before launching into "Lopsy Lu. The band's spirits were unwavering throughout the song, and they continued with "Rock 'n' Roll Jelly" in high spirits, followed by an overwhelmingly enthusiastic rendition of "Superstition. The performance of "Superstition" is overwhelmingly passionate. Although the greatness of the performance can be glimpsed in the previous recordings, it is even sharper and more vivid in the clear sound of this album. The second day at Nippon Budokan, which is highly acclaimed as one of the best performances in the popular 1978 collection. This is a miraculous new master that greatly updates the best sound. There is a tape change after "Diamond Dust," "Rock 'n' Roll Jelly," and "Blue Wind," but all of them are the cheers between the songs, and not a single note of the passionate performance is missed. This is a live album of cultural heritage level that permanently preserves the masterpiece performance of Jeff and Stanley, two rare geniuses who layered their sounds on top of each other, in the highest quality sound.
