Of Band of Gypsies' four shows at the Fillmore East over two days, only the first show on December 31, 1969, the band's first on stage, featured an "aggressive" set list that omitted any previously released material. The first show on December 31, 1969, the band's first stage, was an "aggressive" setlist that omitted any previously released songs. This was not only the debut of Jimi's new band, but also an extremely rare setlist in his career. This very historic stage in his live history is now officially released as "MACHINE GUN: LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST 12/31/1969 (FIRST SHOW)" and can be heard in perfect stereo soundboard recording. The show had been a leaked soundboard recording until then. Until then, this show was famous for its leaked soundboard recording, but it had a drawback that Jimi's vocals were off during the first three songs. The audience recording of the same show became an unexpectedly valuable document for enthusiasts. The audience recording of the same show proved that Jimi's voice was still resonant during the first three songs at the venue that day. In addition, the audience's presence, who were watching Jimi's new band with bated breath in front of him, was naturally captured, which the soundboard could not. However, with the advent of the powerful official "MACHINE GUN," these underground recordings were completely wiped out. The problem was that the audience recordings, which had value as "documents from the audience," were no longer available on the Internet or among traders, and their existence was almost obliterated. It is true that the official version was the deciding factor, but it is too sad to see this valuable audience document buried. So, Jimi's researchers offered this audience recording as a gift. Of course, the quality is not quite as good as the official soundboard, but it is still very easy to listen to as a monaural audience recording from 1969. The "Power Of Soul" item has been released in the past, but this time a copy of the first generation was used, and the pitch has been adjusted to create an upper version that is incomparable to the original. The opening song "Power Of Soul" has some sound drop due to the taper's hasty volume adjustment at the beginning of the performance, and there is also a sound cut off just before Jimi starts singing, which is a common fault of vintage audios. However, the recording continues to be very stable after that, and unlike the official version, it is valuable enough to have captured the scene before Jimi and the band are introduced at the opening, when he appears on stage and plays the "In From The Storm"-like riff that would later appear. And since the stage consisted of practically all new songs, it clearly shows that the audience, if not bewildered, did not reach a frenzy at the end of the show. I am not sure if it was Jimi's, Buddy Miles', or Bill Graham's suggestion, but I think it was inevitable that an experience number was introduced in the remaining three stages. In addition to the preciousness of the content, this is literally an overlooked audience recording of the Band of Gypsies at its best, and we are confident that the high quality of the recording will satisfy enthusiasts.
