In conjunction with the release of the Jimi Hendrix 1968 Fillmore classic, we are releasing a live recording from 1968. This is an audience album recorded live in Chicago on February 25, 1968, whereas that was in May. Compared to the Fillmore, which boasts of amazing clarity for an audience recording from 1968, including the balance of the performance, the sound quality of this one is more vintage and analog-like. Of course, the vintage sound is not the kind of roar that drowns out Jimi's vocals over his guitar and the Experience's performance (not at all!). The sound quality is not so much vintage as it is confident and confident like the first half of 1968. The only negative point is that all the inter-song intervals are curl-cut, probably to save tape, but the performances are captured well, except for the last two songs. Unfortunately, the cuts are so frequent on "Like A Rolling Stone" that the song is as good as not being included, and the recording of "Purple Haze" ended in the middle of the song. Even with these cuts, the precious contents of the album and the richness of the performance make it a must-hear for any fan of the band. The setlist, which was recorded in 1968 but still retains a strong pattern of the previous year's performance, is very valuable. The fact that "The Wind Cries Mary" and "Manic Depression" are still in the repertoire at this point in time proves that this is still valuable, while "I Don't Live Today" is still a part of the repertoire that was added this year. The fact that "I Don't Live Today" is a new addition to the repertoire, yet still played with little improvisation and in a compact manner, is refreshing. Like the Fillmore, the band also performed Bob Dylan's "Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window? And what can be said about the performance? The contrast between the opening song "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Fire", which were performed in rapid succession with super high tension, and the gentle "The Wind Cries Mary", which was a complete turnaround, gave me goose bumps. You could even feel the audience, who had been excited up to that point, quiet down at once and listen to the song. It is a moving experience. Civic Opera House, Chicago, IL, USA 25th February 1968 (30:45) 1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. Live Today 6. Hey Joe 7. Can You Please Come Crawl Out Your Window? 8. Manic Depression 9. Like A Rolling Stone 10. Purple Haze
