Livon Helm's 1988 live performance at the Lone Star Cafe in New York City is recorded in excellent quality tabletop direct soundboard. In 1988, after the death of Richard Manuel, and with the reunion of The Band finally simmering down, Livon was doing some solo gigs. The gig at the Lone Star Café was not only a solo show, but also a stage showcase for some spectacular guests. Not only did Phoebe Snow and actor Harry Dean Stanton appear, but even Bob Dylan made an appearance. What was amazing about this collaboration was that Dylan sang not his own song, but the Band's classic "The Weight! It was the only time he sang it later in the show, and he sang lead vocals beautifully. This made it a very rare live version of the song, with Livon singing the part that was sung by Rick Danko in The Band. It was lucky that the rare scene was recorded on a high-quality table-top direct-coupled soundboard, but of course, The Band's three-disc boot "Crossing the Great Divide" had a track record of recording the two songs Dylan sang that day. However, the pitch was higher and the sound quality was clearly inferior to that of this recording. Besides, "CROSSING THE~" was released 20 years ago. Many people may not have known about this miraculous collaboration and scene. So, after a long time, we are now releasing the soundboard directly connected to the Lone Star Café in 1988, and first of all, the sound quality has improved drastically. The original was a "2nd gen." cassette that appeared in recent years, which naturally means that it was a low generation cassette. However, both the upper version and the "crossing the~" version had one problem in common: the pitch was too high. The pitch problem was thoroughly adjusted for this release, and combined with the upper sound quality, it has been reborn in an extremely easy-to-listen-to state. The entire gig is included, and the great performance with the other guests is captured in excellent sound quality. In fact, "Ragtop" also has someone other than Livon on lead vocals, but the details of this remain unknown. Phoebe Snow also sings soulfully on two songs. The sound quality is excellent, and you can hear Livon's enjoyment in the relaxed atmosphere of the gig, which is quite different from the Band's stage performance. The band's performance of "Goin Back to Memphis," which was also performed during the band's days, is a prime example of this, and the way Livon sings in a relaxed manner is impressive, unlike the powerful singing of the band's days. The second half of the gig featured two instrumental songs, again with a rockin' groove. This is what I would call the "Livon Helm Troupe," a relaxed and enjoyable stage performance recorded in excellent sound quality. Enjoy the night and the surprise appearance of Dylan (who also sang Chuck Berry's "Nadine"!) at the exact pitch. ) in accurate pitch. A superb soundboard document of a fantastic day buried in The Band's history! Lone Star Cafe, New York City, NY, USA 29th May 1988 SBD (79:59) 1. Intro 2. The Weight (with Bob Dylan) ★ 5.
