Released on March 1, 1973, “Madness” is an immortal masterpiece that still stands as one of the greatest milestones in rock music. This disc is the definitive collection of outtakes featuring alternate versions of all “Madness” songs! The content is “Another Madness” carefully selected and reconstructed by PINK FLOYD researchers from first time masters and the best masters. This album contains a wide variety of studio outtakes, but it is not just a collection of rare takes. It is composed of two major sections, and is also a tightly crafted musical work. Let's take a look at each section. Main section: “Another Madness” assembled from rare takesThe main part of this work is “Madness,” which was reassembled from outtakes. All the songs are very different from the official takes, and yet the quality of “Another Madness” is high enough to pass as an official work. Legendary “All in One” Take Upgraded B Side This album reconstructs “Madness” from three major takes, and the rarest and most interesting is the “Alternate Mix” on the B side. The most interesting and extremely rare part is the “Alternate Mix” on the B-side. This is a different mix that was included in the Floyd title “THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY” that was suddenly released in 2008 on the Silent Sea label, which was well known for its Beatles-type titles, and its existence was revealed. The Silent Sea version was made from a compressed MD or mp3 source, but this is a lossless transfer from the original digital master, which is the best master available. This lossless master is the best-kept secret that has been circulating secretly among researchers and has not been circulated on the Internet. This alternate mix was created during the production of the official 5.1 channel remixes in the 1990s. One day, the engineer who was working on the project went out to lunch with the multitrack tape set, but someone took advantage of the 30 minutes of empty studio time and played back the multitrack master. The engineer went out to lunch with the multitrack tape set up, but someone took advantage of the 30-minute window when no one was in the studio to play back the multitrack master and record it directly from the console. The key point here is that “the faders on all 16 channels of the mixer console were set to full. This means that each channel, which was supposed to be adjusted for balance, was recorded at full volume. In other words, “sounds that were omitted from the final version” and “sounds that would normally be difficult to notice” were recorded in full. For example, “Money” has a shaker sound that is not heard on the released version, and “After” which fades out in the final version is also included in the fully played version. You can also hear scat and jam-like endings for almost a minute, and the vocal lines are different. Elsewhere, “Us And Them” would have a duet of dual saxophones, with piano and backing vocals at the end of the song. On “Brain Damage,” you can even hear the tubular bells that were removed in the final mix. The extreme ending of “Eclipse” is the last song. The narration, which had been slightly heard in the heartbeat, is heard at length and on the same level as the main vocals. The remastered version of the album sometimes surprises me by saying, “I didn't know such a sound was included,” and this is the “B-side with everything” that gives me the maximum impact! The A-side, which reconstructs the original sound, was recorded during the engineer's lunch hour, which was a bold move, but the engineer was only able to record the B-side, which was set on an open-reel deck, and he did not have time to work on the A-side. Therefore, the A-side part was reconstructed in this work, making full use of two different sources. The main one is the “1972 Early Mix. This is literally the early mix by Alan Parsons at the time of the album's production, and is taken from the same highest peak master as the official “IMMERSION BOX SET” from 2011. However, this early mix was not used because “Speak To Me” at the beginning of the album was not completed. Therefore, a longer version of the SE tape used in the 1974 tour is included in this release. This was covered by the screen image that was also included in the “IMMERSION BOX SET”. Only the audio was extracted from the tape and balanced with the other tracks. This allows the listener to enjoy the B-side mix straight through. The second half: more valuable outtakes Following “Another Madness,” which is the main part of the album, are 9 more diverse outtakes. These can also be divided into three main categories, which I will introduce individually. Original Versions (2 songs)First to appear are two songs from the original stage, before the other versions: one is “Us And Them,” which was originally composed for the movie “The Dunes” under the title “The Violent Sequence. However, it was rejected by the director Michelangelo Antonioni, who envisioned a “Eugene-like” song, and was put in storage. As a matter of fact, the original version was also included in the “IMMERSION BOX SET,” but somehow it was edited to shreds and shortened. The second is “The Travel Sequence,” the original version of “On The Run. The second is “The Travel Sequence,” the original version of “On The Run,” which was recorded live in the studio without the distinctive synth riff and with the guitar taking the lead. This studio version was never used because the song itself was reworked from scratch. Rough Mixes (4 tracks) This is also one of the highlights of the album, and the first time it has been released. The take itself first appeared in 1989 on the ancient Italian boot “From the Other Side,” but this is an upgraded version made from the original. This is a very rare master from a researcher's source that has not been circulated on the Internet, etc. The tape generation of this track is completely different from the fuzzy “FROM THE OTHER SIDE” take, and it has been reborn with a high quality sound. The contents are also very interesting. The term “rough mix” can mean a variety of things, but in this case, it sounds like “the final claws have not been decided. Although the musical perfection is high, it is the most interesting stage where the difference from the final version can be recognized at a glance. For example, “Time” has a 30 second longer intro instead of the lead guitar, and “Us And Them” has no tape echo and a different take of the saxophone. Brain Damage” and ‘Eclipse’ have overdubs of Gilmour's guitar, which was omitted from the released version. The first half of “Brain Damage” was missing, as was the first verse of “From the Other Side,” but this version has been supplemented from the Pohnpei source, so you can hear it without the frustration of the fade-in in the middle. The last part of this album is the SE tapes used in the live tours from 1973 to 1975. This is the sound synchronized to the screen film included in the official “IMMERSION BOX SET” Blu-ray, and while track 01, Speak To Me, was the 1974 UK tour version, this is the one used on the 1975 North American tour. As a side note, this take was mistakenly included on the official DVD/Blu-ray as the 1974 French tour version. The other two tracks are also valuable as they are not covered by the performance and only the SE can be heard. The above is a collection of hidden treasures that covers all the tracks of “Madness” plus 9 takes. This is the definitive collection of “Madness” rare tracks, including “Another Madness” featuring the shocking “B-side of all the pieces,” a rough mix that was greatly upgraded, and the original song in its highest quality. The definitive collection of “Madness” outtakes. The first half is an alternate version of all the “Madness” tracks, composed from three different masters, and the most intense part is the B-side part, which was recorded surreptitiously during the official remixing process. Since all channels were recorded at full volume, even the performances and sound effects, which were not audible in the final version, come to life as if they were the main melody. The second half includes 9 individual takes, including the original version and a very rare rough mix.
