Robin Trower left PROCOL HARUM in 1973 to strike out on his own. This is a soundboard album that allows you to experience the very early days of Robin Trower's career in the finest sound. This album contains the "August 30, 1973 show in Atlanta. In 1973, he had just released his solo debut album "TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY". First, let's look back at the schedule of that time and check the position of the show. January 29-February 4: Europe #1 (3 shows) 《March "TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY" release》・March 2-20: Europe #2 (12 shows) ・April 25-June 9: UK (35 shows) ・June 22-29: Europe #3 (3 shows) ・July 22-September 3: North America #1 (18 concerts)←★Coco★★ ・October 19-November 10: North America #2 (9 concerts) This was Robin's 1973. The band toured around Europe, mainly in the U.K., and four months after the album's release, they also made their way to the North American continent. The Atlanta concert in this album is the 15th concert of that "North America #1" tour. It was a time when the 28-year-old Robin, who was eager to conquer the U.S. while developing the ensemble of his new trio in Europe, exploded. Since he was on the market as a solo artist, there was an abundance of broadcast recordings from this period. This show was also broadcast on the Atlanta FM radio station "WRAS" and has been considered one of the standard recordings for many years. This album is an update of the best of the best. This is not a copy or remaster of a previously airchecked recording, but a recently unearthed pre-broadcast master. Usually, "pre-broadcast masters" are broadcast transcription LPs, but this is much more than that. This is the ultimate quality disc, digitized directly from the master reel before the original broadcast master. Although the original master reel has been edited to include DJ comments, the quality is astounding. It is no surprise that the quality is incomparable to that of an aircheck over the airwaves. The reel-to-reel master has no scratch noise, which is common in the original recording. Conversely, tape masters are susceptible to deterioration over time, but this is a rare exception. There is absolutely no sagging or distortion, and the glossy sound is unwavering from beginning to end. I can't imagine how it could be kept in such a state for more than 45 years. We often introduce digitized 1st press LPs of famous rock albums in our store, aiming for "the closest sound to the master tape". Even in the case of transcription of broadcasts, it is a challenge to get as close to the master as possible over the LP. However, the source of this work is the "master tape" itself. This is a supreme dimension that many master recordings and broadcasts have never even considered the possibility of exploring from the beginning. The show with such ultimate sound is nothing short of amazing. The set was standard for the time, and was the cream of the famous "TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY" and "BRIDGE OF SIGHS" albums. Six of the nine songs from the debut are performed, with half of the second album sprinkled in; the essence of the two albums is concentrated into ten songs, and the heat and flow that only the stage can provide carry the entire show. It is a rich early best, and at the same time, a scorching album that heats up even more. And the fact that it is the original trio is also good. James Dewar's British voice, reminiscent of Paul Rodgers, is superb, while his guitar, said to be the second coming of Jimi Hendrix, explodes throughout the album. And sitting on the stool is black drummer Reg Isadore. The ensemble is a true product of the three men who created "TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY" and "BRIDGE OF SIGHS". What's more, it's great that they are playing the classic songs from "BRIDGE OF SIGHS" but before the release of the album. While establishing the band's potential to create that great album, they have yet to achieve success. The performance carries the momentum of a challenger who boldly takes on the challenge, not a victor, and the hot guitars burn even more fiercely. It is not limited to Robin, but rock music tastes better when played with full of ambition just before the show than when played with confidence that has reached its peak. Moreover, this film is America, the enemy territory to be conquered for the British rockers. It is that kind of performance that is packed into this album. Robin Trower is a guitarist with soul. In 1973, he was burning with an initial impulse and passion that would never be seen again in his career. This is a superb soundboard album that recreates that scene from the original reel-to-reel master. This is a masterpiece that had to be made, and it is a superb live album that could not have been bad. This is a masterpiece of British blues-rock.
