Mike Millard's recordings of The Who's 1980 LA shows have all been of the highest quality, and now the final date of the 1980 LA shows is finally available. The Who were at the height of their popularity in the U.S. at the time, and as a result, they played a total of seven shows in LA, including five nights at the Memorial Sports Arena and two nights at the LA Forum. What is consistently conveyed from these recordings is that this was the peak of The Who's live performances when Kenny Jones was in the band. The audience in LA was excited on all days, and the group's performance was also hot in response. The group's performance was also very hot in response. The clarity and freshness of the sound, as well as the power of the sound image, were again on full display. The band was at full throttle, especially in the first half of the show, and the performance was as strong as ever. Pete and Roger must have clearly felt that The Who were finally getting back on track after the death of Keith Moon. The performance was solid, especially up to "See Me, Feel Me. However, Pete was not about to let the show end quietly, and from "Long Live Rock," he began to lead the band in high spirits. Pete's ad-lib mode burst into full force on "Summertime Blues. Surprisingly, Pete did not try to play that riff, which should be the family heirloom. It was clear that Pete had no intention to play the song he had played so many times that he was tired of it, and he performed "Summertime Blues" so lightly that it sounded like another song except for the singing part. Pete, who had a craving for improvisation, tried to sing the Kingsmen's standard "Louie Louie" as if he was thinking of the U.S., but the rest of the band did not follow him (laughter), and he lost the song. Just when it looked as if the performance was going to go downhill, John saved the day by singing "Twist And Shout" without any problems. Just listening to this free-flowing scene, I am convinced that LA 1980 was the peak of the Kenny Jones era of The Who. The sound quality is outstanding, and once again, the stable Millard quality is exploding. Live at Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA, USA 28th June 1980 TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc:1 ( I Can't Explain 4.
