The last two shows of the tumultuous 1979 New York MSG 5-show series have been recorded in their entirety in superb, previously unavailable audience recordings. The September 17 show was the longest live recording at 2 hours and 33 minutes, and the most exciting of the five shows. The live performance on September 17 is said to be the most exciting live performance of the 5 days of MSG. During "Who Are You" in the middle of the show, Pete accidentally cut his palm with a guitar string, which caused a lot of bloodshed. At the end of the song, Pete retreated backstage, while Roger tried to connect the scene with MC, but during this time, the audience was in an uproar. At this point, the nearly 9-minute improvised instrumental started. Roger's harmonica solo, then a drum solo, then a bass solo, then a band jam featuring the organ, then a drum solo again, and the realistic recording shows how the band makes Pete's absence last (Roger is playing Pete's guitar). . The crowd is favorable, nice and exited, and you can tell they are enjoying this acidental turn of events. After the jam is over, Pete is unable to return from his treatment, so Roger's voice count leads into a very unusual guitar-less rendition of My Generation next. The jam-like arrangement of the song allows the audience to sing most of the vocals, and the audience responds to this unexpected turn of events in an enthusiastic mood. The song takes a spontaneous turn into the Magic Bus, with drum and bass leading the way, and Pete finally makes his appearance just past the two-minute mark to a roar of applause. The guitar roars and the whole band seems to be driven, and it's a moving moment (there is a tape change at 5:47). Pete's injury was to his palm, not his finger, so once the bleeding was stopped, he had no problem playing the guitar, and the band continued to play with a groove for over an hour, much to the delight of the audience. Fully back on their feet, the band then launched into Pinball Wizard, See Me Feel Me, 5.15, and Long Live Rock, followed by a solid reprise of My Generation, Shakin' All Over, Please Don't Touch, Sweets For My Sweet, Pretty Vacation, and the final song of the night, "I'll Be Your Mother. For My Sweet, Pretty Vacant, and Cat's In The Cupboard. Won't Get Fooled Again is followed by The Real Me, Sparks, Big Boss Man, and a new song, Dance It Away. The last show on September 18, the last day of MSG, was a short show of less than two hours. The set itself was simple and standard, with only I Am An Animal and Roadrunner as the only songs of the day, but the show itself was very tight, powerful, and great. Roger's vocal performance was excellent throughout the entire set, and he never felt tired. However, a problem arose in the fifth song, "My Wife. The song starts off with a bang, but just before the 1:30 mark, Pete spots trouble in the audience and, perhaps by gesture, tells the entire band to stop playing (although they don't actually stop altogether), and Roger and Pete protest during the song. The band starts playing again, and the second half of the song is wildly exciting as usual. After the song ends, Roger can be heard clearly on the microphone asking a woman in the front row to get out of her chair so that the people behind her can see her properly. The flow is a bit choppy during this part, but otherwise the performance is smooth, powerful, and solid. The second half of the show, My Generation - Dreaming From The Waist - Magic Bus - I Am An Animal - Won't Get Fooled Again, closes the main set with a slow and solid flow that is also great. The encore is The Real Me and Shakin' All Over - Roadrunner, powerfully closing the historic 5 days of MSG. This is the best live recording of the five days, and is the best live take that anyone can enjoy.
